Dr. Fallon Graham, director of planning, policy and research, presented the annual policy review and highlighted several proposed changes the administration placed in BoardDocs for board consideration.
"Policy 5 23 protects the rights of parents to participate in their child's education unless they are limited by a court order or by school board policy or regulation," Dr. Graham said. She also described proposed technical and procedural updates: Policy 4.41 would update walk distances for bus stops by school level and improve routing to academies and after-school centers; Policy 4.49 would remove procedural and administrative language; Policy 8.58 would provide unpaid leave and allow eligible employees to purchase Virginia Retirement System service credit for a leave period; and Policy 9.21 would remove redundant definitions to improve clarity.
Dr. Graham emphasized that regulations do not require board action but are available for review in BoardDocs. Board members asked no questions during the presentation and the board accepted the information agenda item.
