The planning commission voted unanimously to forward a preliminary site plan for a 32,000 square‑foot medical office building on Lot 2 in the Urban Central District to the city council with a recommendation for approval. A staff member said the site is 2.37 acres at the northern end of the district and that the proposal includes new trail connections and an internal road to link onto Rancho Way and Cherry Street.
"It's a 32,000 square foot, medical office building," the staff member said, noting the project would serve as an anchor tenant for the surrounding development and is consistent with the district's urban high‑intensity land‑use designation. The staff presentation described an eight‑foot trail along Rancho Way, an extension of the city's trail to Money Creek and a future city project to extend Commercial Drive in the upcoming fiscal year.
Commissioners asked questions about setbacks, building height and the project's effect on street character; staff and the applicant addressed those points and emphasized the development's expected role in driving additional tenant activity. After discussion, a commissioner moved to accept staff findings and forward the preliminary site plan to council; roll call recorded aye votes and the motion carried.
