The City of Maquoketa Tree Board on July 13 approved a $19,611 IRA Tree Planting Grant to fund tree plantings over two years, along with watering bags and paid watering support as needed. Amanda River prepared the grant, and board members said the funds will support boulevard plantings requested by property owners.
Under the plan, seven trees will be planted on residential boulevards in response to a survey asking whether owners want and will care for a tree on their boulevard. Board members were asked to bring lists of potential planting sites to the next meeting; Jamie Ledding will check with Public Works on whether additional plantings are allowed at the Waste Water Treatment Plant Park and will request site suggestions. Planting is hoped to occur in mid-October, and Elaine Edwards asked that One Call be used in advance to identify underground utilities before planting day.
