The Maquoketa City Council voted to approve a resolution to purchase two parcels from the United Church of Christ for $62,500, a measure that passed on a roll‑call vote with one councilor opposed. City staff said the acquisition could expand east‑side parking for events such as the Fireball Summer Concert Series and would be paid from the city's general‑fund CIP rather than through new taxes.
City Manager Josh Bolt told the council the parcels are strategically located and that the city has roughly $3 million in CIP accounts split among departments; he warned that improvements would require further investment and that no final development plan has been prepared. The resolution passed 5–1 (Brickell voted no).
