The City Council adopted Ordinance 257‑011326 to add a mobile food vendors article to Chapter 4 of the municipal code, aligning local rules with recently adopted state legislation. Staff explained the local ordinance updates regulatory language to the edge of what state law allows: the city will continue to regulate location, permits and setbacks and require trash service, but health inspection for food service remains the state's responsibility and the local ordinance does not duplicate that authority. The ordinance becomes effective July 1 in keeping with state law.
Several council members noted delays in state inspections that have prevented food truck operators from getting approved inspection slots. One council member said their own food-truck permit process had been delayed: "My wife has left a message 4 times, more than 4 times, and nobody's… we're our food trucks sit in our driveway waiting for inspection," and staff said local permitting would not be held up by the city's action; state inspection remains the state's process. The council voted to adopt the ordinance.
