The Maquoketa City Council on July 20 set public hearings for 6 p.m. Aug. 3 to consider two real estate purchases. Resolution No. 2026-89 would authorize the city to consider buying Parcels #145181930200100 and #145181930200200 from the United Church of Christ for a combined $62,500. Resolution No. 2026-90 would set a hearing on purchasing Parcel #145181930200500 from Cornwell Property LLC for $42,500.
City Manager Joshua Boldt told the council that funds for these purchases would come from accrued interest revenue. Both resolutions were approved unanimously (motions carried 6-0). The council did not vote to purchase the parcels at this meeting; the Aug. 3 public hearings will provide an opportunity for additional public input and a final council decision.
