"The big thing is the materials. It's a $133,000 towards materials," Bob said, adding that equipment is treated differently from the state standpoint when it exceeds $10,000. He said the district divided equipment and materials by school using percentages and that KB schools today have roughly $24,000 available for materials and smaller equipment purchases.
Board members asked for examples of Perkins purchases; staff said the district has bought mannequins for health programs, welding equipment in a prior cycle, and software for tracking clinical hours. Presenters noted that Perkins cannot be used to supplant district spending for non-CTE programs; funds must be specific to CTE program needs.
