Commission schedules public hearing on automated traffic-enforcement cameras

The Middletown Police Department Public Safety Commission voted Dec. 16 to schedule a public hearing on proposed digital traffic-enforcement cameras.
Chief Fausto told commissioners the ordinance to permit cameras has already passed and the department has contracts in place "with Traffic Logic and DACA, who is our back end ticket" processor; he said the cameras would be placed only where crash and violation data support them. Fausto listed three priority locations: Washington Street near the Middlefield line, South Main/Route 17 toward the Durham line, and Country Club Road in the Moody School zone. He added each site would use two cameras to record both directions.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about site counts and timing. The body agreed to schedule the hearing on a date when the council chamber is available; a motion to set the hearing was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote.
