Registrar reviews Secure Virginia 2025 exercise and new state security-policy format

Registrar Mark said he participated in the statewide Secure Virginia 2025 exercise—an event led by the Department of Homeland Security and run at the state level this year—and described tabletop scenarios focused on cybersecurity and mailed-ballot security that included FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, VITA, the Department of Elections and the National Guard. He said the exercise affirmed many existing procedures and generated ideas to strengthen emergency-response and security plans.
Separately, Mark explained the Department of Elections has changed its submission format for the local security policy and now requests a letter on letterhead in a specific format; she said she will incorporate that required formatting into the local security-policy document so the board signs once and the office can submit the properly formatted letter to the state, reducing duplicate paperwork.
