Election office outlines ADA fixes at multiple polling sites ahead of November vote

The registrar walked the board through ADA issues found at specific polling locations and recommended concrete remedies to ensure accessibility on Election Day. For Semmes the curbside voting location needs moving because of a new splash-pad entrance; Smithland requires one extra ADA parking space, a wireless doorbell and a mat to cover a walkway gap; JMU requires attention to a transom lip that could trip voters; and other sites (Waterman, Keister, Thomas Harrison) require interior-door propping, mats or cone-marked parking.
Mark said the office will package these remedies into the precinct "black boxes" chiefs receive on election day and add a slide to training materials so precinct workers know how to set up each site. He asked the board to sign the ADA compliance certification (to be submitted to the Department of Elections) once members are satisfied the remedial actions are recorded.
