Shelter Island board agrees to reopen PipDoc hearing and sets new notice dates

The Town Board heard from the applicant's representative and neighborhood speakers about whether to reopen a closed public hearing on a PipDoc application. Some residents argued the record was already complete and said reopening would favor the applicant; the applicant asked another chance to present missing materials.
The board agreed it would be more efficient to reopen the hearing than to require the applicant to restart the process. The supervisor said the WMAC should review additional materials and set a public hearing on Feb. 23, with the board placing the reopening on the Feb. 2 agenda. The applicant representative said they were "more than happy to come and address you" if the hearing is reopened.
Some neighbors urged the board to leave the record closed and to require the applicant to reapply rather than reopen; the board balanced those concerns against the administrative costs of redoing a full application process and opted to reopen the hearing and schedule further review by WMAC.
