At its May 20 meeting the Springport Planning Board recorded a recommendation that AI data centers and battery energy storage systems (BESS) be located in the town's Industrial zoning district and agreed to send a formal request to the Town Supervisor and Town Board. "The Town Planning Board will recommend AI Data Centers and BESS be located in the town zoning location of Industrial," the minutes state.
A separate document dated June 2, 2026 addressed to Town Supervisor Andrew RIndfleisch and the Town Board lists the requested additions to the Industrial zone as "AI Data Centers" and "BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)" and is signed by Chair Mike Sacco and Planning Board members. The minutes do not record a roll-call vote on the recommendation; they record the board's intent to forward the letter for Town Board consideration. The Town Board's response and any ordinance changes were not recorded in these minutes.
