At its Aug. 5 meeting the Lafourche Parish School Board approved recommended revisions to the student code of conduct for 2026–27 and adopted the district's parent and student handbook for the coming year.
During public comment a resident raised concerns about policy JR (student records), saying the version published online lacked a '10‑day' parental right and that updates had been made without adequate public notice. The commenter told trustees she had difficulty obtaining records and urged the board to make the IERP a formal policy rather than placing it only in the handbook.
Board staff responded that the district had amended the policy file to reflect statutory language and that a clerical display error on the website had been corrected; the speaker on the board said the board had previously approved the correct policy language and that the failure was in how changes were highlighted in the document and website display. The board carried the code and handbook approvals by voice vote.
