Lafourche Extension Service introduces new parish chair and staff to school board

Marville Castro, the newly appointed parish chair for the Lafourche Extension Service, presented the extension team's programs to the Lafourche Parish School Board at its Aug. 5 meeting and urged board members to connect classrooms with extension resources.
"It has been an honor to be given that role," Castro said, and she described an "open door policy" for schools that need programming support. Castro introduced agents who provide 4‑H, livestock, forage, nutrition and horticulture services and distributed quarterly reports with contact information for follow‑up.
Agents highlighted the range of classroom and community activities they offer. Suzanne Traxclair, one of the 4‑H agents, said the program visits every public and private school in the parish; Becky Gautreaux described nutrition and community‑health programming available for field days and physical activity classes. Horticulture agent David Carlino offered assistance on school and community gardens and general horticulture questions.
The board did not take action on the presentation. Castro asked district principals and staff to reach out for site visits and partnership opportunities.
