Recovery Courts Foundation describes emergency assistance fund, sets Oct. 22 fundraiser

Jack Mitchell, president of the Recovery Courts Foundation board, told the dedication audience the foundation steps in where county funding and grant cycles fall short, providing immediate assistance for participants leaving jail who lack basic resources.
Mitchell described a fund that pays for short-term needs such as deposits for housing or prescriptions so participants do not rely on staff's personal payments. "We try to fill in the gaps where the county funding and the grants funding ... comes up short," he said, adding the foundation's next annual fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 22.
Speakers at the ceremony thanked donors and volunteers and encouraged attendees to support the foundation's work so the program can continue to provide services that reduce recidivism and help graduates rejoin their families and communities.
