Land bank cites grants and projects aimed at workforce and 'missing middle' housing

Antonio Adan, executive director of the Marquette County Land Bank, presented the organization's annual report and highlighted partnerships, awards and specific redevelopment projects intended to expand workforce and missing-middle housing across the county.
Adan said the Land Bank received a Regional Impact Award from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and is pursuing multiple grant rounds. He described a preliminary application for Ishpeming Township that could yield $750,000 for housing infrastructure and discussed stabilization work at the Anderson Building to enable a developer to build 11 housing units and two retail storefronts in downtown Ishpeming. "This is the Regional Impact Award, which celebrates and, us for collaborative approach with working with local jurisdictions," Adan said.
He told commissioners the Land Bank has been involved with about 130 of roughly 650 units reported in county planning and that 55 units are under construction. Adan emphasized the need for technical assistance, grants and local advocacy to make small- and medium-scale housing projects feasible in Marquette County's short construction season.
