Board accepts qualified 2025–26 third interim budget report

Finance staff reviewed the 2025–26 third interim budget (snapshot as of April 30), explaining why the district again presented a qualified certification and what changes appeared since the second interim.
The presenter said the unrestricted general‑fund change was essentially immaterial—"So, basically, no no change, with a budget our size, that's a very, very tiny change." The restricted general fund did see an increase tied to students moving into specialized placements (about $667,000). Presenters reminded the board that multi‑year projections maintained a 3% required reserve in the near term but did not meet that threshold in the later years, which is why the report remains qualified. The packet was submitted to the Marin County Office of Education on time.
Trustees moved and seconded the motion to approve the third interim; the motion passed with six votes in favor plus a student advisory vote (as recorded verbally). Staff said next steps include developing the 2026–27 budget for presentation June 9 and final approval later in June.
