Dosa told the board that the Veterans Affairs Committee approved the ballot language and that increased workload — including complex toxic-exposure claims related to KI Sawyer veterans — has strained department capacity. She said state grants can help temporarily, but they are competitive and limited; the millage would provide predictable local revenue for staffing, outreach and technology needs. "The Veterans Affairs Committee has submitted a request for an authorization to place a new, 0.05 mil proposal on the August 2026 ballot," she said.
Board members moved and seconded the measure and approved placing the proposal on the ballot unanimously. Commissioners and commenters during the meeting urged voters to consider the county-wide importance of veterans services and acknowledged the committee's recent staffing and grant challenges.
