Dennis Mercado Soriano, executive director of the East Coast Greenway Alliance, told the crowd the local completion is part of a multi-state effort to build a continuous route connecting towns and cities along the coast. He described the project as "the fruit of their idea and of the hard work of many remarkable people," and said the corridor is "on the cusp of having a 400 mile stretch from New Haven, Connecticut to Boston to Coastal Maine that's family friendly and ready for everyone."
Soriano cited the Greenway's long history of volunteer leadership and philanthropy and described trail completion as a vehicle for economic growth and public health. He urged residents to volunteer, donate and support elected leaders who prioritize greenways, saying completed greenways attract tourists who bolster local businesses and can "restore our social fabric."
