Supervisors reallocate $62,500 to keep one Nottoway County Emergency Squad ambulance in service

The Nottoway County Board of Supervisors voted to reappropriate $62,500 to fund one Nottoway County Emergency Squad ambulance beginning June 1, after a presentation from squad leadership and finance staff describing an immediate payroll shortfall. Logan Presley, identified as financial manager, told the board the squad requested about 0.083 of next year's budget, roughly $62,500, to cover payroll this fiscal year; the board approved the single-month reallocation by voice vote and staff indicated a check would be available June 2.

Williams, speaking for the Emergency Squad, described the squad's staffing and response challenges and said the organization is working to recruit more clinicians. "Our goal would be to have a paramedic on every truck," Williams said, noting that call volume has been high and that mutual‑aid partners had covered many responses in recent weeks. Supervisors discussed options including an advisory board for oversight, recruitment incentives and coordination with neighboring providers; they also asked staff to provide transparent payroll and operational numbers to guide future budget decisions.

The board approved appointments to an advisory body to provide financial and operational oversight: supervisors named Toth, Rourke and Hyde (with Buddy Hack included) to the Nottoway Emergency Squad advisory board. The action is meant to increase transparency on how county funds would be used if the board commits longer-term support; supervisors said bylaw language can be revised later if the advisory role needs to change to an executive role.
