Commissioner Steve Davis told colleagues on Aug. 4 that he supports a proposal from Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb to adopt a rolling three-year lookback to calculate each county's share of the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center (MCJDC) funding formula. Commissioner Davis said he has discussed the calculations with Commissioner Bubb and finds the approach reasonable.
Commissioners Jeff Fix and David Levacy said they also view the proposal as reasonable. Davis noted that a similar lookback approach had been discussed about six years earlier and that the four participating counties previously reached agreement on a revised cost-sharing formula; the new proposal would use each year’s three-year average to compute shares. The item was discussed but not finalized during the Aug. 4 meeting; commissioners said they expect to consider formal action at a future inter-county meeting.
