District staff reported results from a survey the board asked staff to send to families; 252 parents responded. Staff summarized priorities: athletics and extracurricular activities rated highly, and families emphasized family time as an important factor in scheduling decisions.
"A lot of families and parents were making decisions, based on athletics," the staff member said when describing ranked priorities. She presented the current schedule as a baseline — junior high and high school first period at 8:05 a.m. with dismissal around 3:15 p.m. — and said a compromise schedule that had both levels starting at 8:30 a.m. had also been shown to the board.
Staff noted only the high school would be affected if the schedule stayed the same and asked for board feedback on the options; the board did not take a formal vote but signaled further discussion would follow and requested additional information about impacts on extracurriculars and family schedules.
