Parks staff reports storm damage to Chesterton shelters, Thomas Centennial trees and Wollaston court fence

Parks staff summarized storm damage across town parks and said insurance and cleanup work are underway.
"We had a a large section of one of those white pines, broke off and and then fell on the building. Did some pretty extensive damage to the roof. Thankfully, none of the trusses were were damaged, but, the roof was punctured in several areas. Right now, we got it tarped off, and then I met with an adjuster yesterday," Tyler said, describing damage at Chesterton Park and other locations.
Tyler showed photos and described debris along Morgan Ave and damage to a shelter roof, loss of three mature Norway spruce at Thomas Centennial that served as a buffer to railroad tracks, and a buckled section of the north tennis-court fence at Wollaston Park. He said staff brought in a tree service for hazardous removals and that many repairs will be addressed through insurance claims. Board members praised staff for a rapid cleanup ahead of community events.
No specific repair schedule or total cost estimate was provided; Tyler said he had met with an adjuster and that insurance processes have started.
