North advisory committee reports coordination work, next meeting to discuss finances

Jay Downes, secretary of the North advisory committee and a Smithfield City Council member, briefed trustees on the North committee's work and upcoming schedule.
"Our last meeting was on July 9," Downes said, and he reported the committee had tasked fire chiefs with addressing training, equipment and operational questions. He added the group discussed an "a la carte" approach allowing departments to contract for extra resources (training or other services) as needed: "So, like, if you needed training from somewhere that you could contract with it, and that was one of the things."
Downes said the North committee's next meeting is next Thursday at 6 p.m. and invited trustees and other interested parties to attend; he said county exec Danes is expected to discuss finances and a spreadsheet at that meeting. The North committee has had fewer EMS-specific issues than the South, Downes said, but is preparing operational guidance and contractor options to support local departments.
