Parks staff told the board they submitted a Land and Water Conservation Fund application that packages multiple park projects into a single request and shows a 2-to-1 local match.
"But all in, you know, this project estimate was around 1,500,000. Our grant request was 500,000, so we're gonna show a 2 to 1 overmatch," Tyler said while outlining the proposal, which includes a dog park on the east side, a skate park at the northwest corner of the property, new playground equipment with poured-in-place rubber paths to improve accessibility, relocated sand-volleyball courts and drainage improvements for standing-water problems.
Tyler said the application had an Aug. 1 deadline and that staff expect design work next year and construction in 2028 if state and federal processes and permitting proceed on time. Board members asked whether the new orange loop path would replace a previously discussed sidewalk and whether the application satisfied the grant-scoring priorities; Tyler said the proposal emphasized items listed as high priorities in the town's master plan to improve competitiveness.
The application does not obligate construction funding; a successful grant would require local matching funds and follow-up steps including design and permitting.
