Public comment dominated the Keller ISD meeting’s first hour, with more than a dozen speakers criticizing the board’s handling of leadership changes and a proposed district split. Speakers repeatedly urged the board to release financial data and to allow a public vote on the split.
Several commenters praised Superintendent Tracy Johnson and listed administrators and educators who have left under recent leadership. One speaker cited what she described as $45,000,000 in district accomplishments over two years under Johnson’s leadership and said she did not want to see Johnson resign. Another asked specifically for the data behind the 'Mook Casey Report' that informed detachment discussions, saying the report “emits its lack [of] key financial data.”
Some comments were sharply personal and emotional. One speaker (announced by the chair as the first commenter) accused the board of scheduling a meeting to limit attendance and asked, “are we the baddies?” Another speaker said the timing—meetings during the school day—prevented many parents and staff from attending and amplified community mistrust.
Representative excerpts from the public record include: “$45,000,000 in 2 years is incredible work by an incredible superintendent and her staff,” and, from an initial commenter, “They deliberately scheduled this meeting for a time when the district employees, students, and parents likely couldn't attend.”
Speakers asked the board to publish requested financial analyses and to make detailed explanations available before any decisions that would affect students, staff, or district property. The chair allowed the public-comment period to conclude before moving to executive session.
