Library leadership described a new incident‑reporting process to help staff track problematic patron behavior and noted partnerships with the Howard Center outreach team and the South Burlington Police Department for support and training.
The director (S2) said the Howard Center outreach team and the South Burlington Police Department 'have been fantastic' assisting staff, and that police will conduct January and March trainings including de‑escalation and tabletop scenarios. The board discussed whether formal trespass authority must be codified by the city manager and urged clearer written procedures to guide staff and police interactions.
Members also discussed staffing coverage for Sundays and the budget request for a 0.5 FTE facilities position that did not pass; they encouraged advocacy to city council for additional coverage if needed.
