Monte Sereno’s City Council approved a staff recommendation to confirm Sunday, Aug. 23 as the placeholder date for the annual city picnic and to set the event budget at $22,500 for the upcoming fiscal year.
City staff told the council that last year’s picnic expenditures were just over $19,000 and recommended increasing next year’s budget to $22,500 to account for anticipated vendor cost increases and to provide some additional staff support for setup and cleanup. “Last year’s expenditures were just over $19,000. And so staff would recommend increasing that budget to 22,500 for the upcoming year to accommodate anticipated inflationary increases in the cost of vendors,” the city manager said during the report.
Council members asked whether volunteer groups such as the Los Gatos Lions Club or permitted commercial vendors would provide food service and whether vendors could be required to supply compostable serviceware; staff confirmed vendor permitting is handled through the county and that compostable options were vetted in prior years. After questions, a motion to approve the picnic date and budget was moved and seconded and passed on a voice vote.
