Captain Afton Alvin told the council ebike safety became a priority during the reporting period and described pilot patrols and education. She said a reserve officer, Officer Cronin, has ridden an ebike on patrol, the department launched saturation patrols in school zones and it distributed a 2025 ebike safety brochure in partnership with Safe Routes to School and the Youth Commission. "He's been going out, pretty regularly, and he'll ride right up to these kids..." Alvin said, noting the tactic helps officers engage directly with unsafe riders.
Council members said ebike regulation and proposed state legislation are active concerns; Alvin said the issue is statewide and likely to be addressed in forthcoming legislation, and she expects Monte Sereno will continue local education and enforcement while tracking any state changes.
