County official: new warning letter step added; inspection fee rose to $296

A Santa Clara County representative told the Monte Sereno City Council that the county’s abatement program now includes a warning letter step and that some fees have risen to cover program costs.
Daniel Robles, appearing for the county, summarized recent changes: inspectors now issue a warning letter allowing a two‑week cure period before adding properties to the program, and “the initial inspection has increased, unfortunately, from under $5 to $296 this year,” he said. Robles added that several other fees also rose to help recoup program costs.
Robles said staff introduced the warning‑letter step this season to allow property owners a short period to come into compliance before formal addition to the abatement list. He told the council that parcels identified now but not remedied by deadline would be scheduled in the next abatement season if necessary.
Council members asked whether additional parcels could be added after the warning period and confirmed that the current list of properties would not be expanded for the present season; newly identified parcels would be processed for the 2027 season if they remained noncompliant.
