Council members asked whether bricks could be engraved in place or whether removal and reinstallation would be required; staff flagged prior problems when bricks were removed and reinstalled, noting cost and potential sidewalk damage.
"They have gone up to $30 a brick for the engraving, the brick, the you know, everything except installation," Staff member said while summarizing vendor feedback. Council agreed to have staff return with a minimum-order threshold, a cost estimate that includes removal and installation or in-place etching alternatives, and a draft flyer for a campaign if the council wants to proceed.
The motion to approve beginning the planning and cost analysis for a brick campaign passed in workshop; staff said no bricks would be removed until a campaign reached its minimum order and all costs and logistics were firm.
