Police urge vigilance, selective information-sharing and camera registration for investigations

At a Jan. 16 special meeting, Sergeant Forbes told residents "the whole community needs to come together to be vigilant, communicate with other members in the community and report suspicious activity to law enforcement." Chief Perotti agreed and added that "everyone plays a part in public safety," urging residents to submit tips and act as the community's 'eyes and ears.'
Officer Simons recommended property owners protect their personal property and noted that "cameras are super helpful in any investigation." Chief Perotti pointed to a Saranac Lake crime-watch camera registry where residents can register cameras so police know what footage might exist if an incident occurs. Law enforcement advised that neighborhood groups vet membership so those committing suspected crimes do not gain insight into the group's operations.
