Dr. McDefficker described the district’s approach to increase community partnerships under the community-school model, saying schools that participate can share best practices to help every campus improve. "...quienes ya participan... se pueden compartir qué está teniendo éxito... y juntos tener éxito," he said, inviting families and community programs to connect when they have resources or needs.
To explain how the district sees collaboration, the superintendent used a three-legged-stool metaphor: families, staff and teachers are each a leg and if one leg is missing the stool can fall. "Si llega a faltar 1 de esas patitas, pues llega a caer el banquito," he said, urging broader participation from all stakeholders.
