Council committee authorizes $548,216 design agreement for Chenango Street reconstruction

Ron Lake, the city's chief engineer, told the committee the city ran a qualifications process with four firms and selected Delta for a complete-street redesign that could include a road diet and streetscaping. Lake asked council authorization for $548,216 to complete the design phase and said construction would be funded later through bonding or grants, with a possible construction window in 2028–29. "That's gonna be a complete street redesign with road diet and all the things that we have to do now for our streets," Lake said. Committee members asked about phasing and grants; Lake said design would likely be bonded while the city pursues construction grants and that the project might be split into two contracts depending on the final design.
Council members signaled interest in design details and streetscape lessons from recent projects before final approvals move forward. No final vote on construction authorization occurred at the work session; the committee advanced the design authorization request for additional review.
