Brenham ISD authorizes expedited HVAC repairs at Krause Elementary after air-handler failure

The Brenham Independent School District approved an expedited purchase and repair plan after district contractors identified a failed air-handler at Krause Elementary that serves the school’s gym and cafeteria. Eric, a representative from program manager Ryerson Gardner, told the board the district authorized a vendor on a cooperative buying board to begin work on an accelerated schedule so the unit would be operational the week before school begins.
“This particular HVAC unit takes care of the gym and the cafeteria,” Eric said, describing the location and access work needed to reach the fan motor. He told the board expedited parts would shorten lead time to about two weeks and that decoupling and reassembly of the unit is expected to take about seven days. Superintendent Clay Gillentine said administrators moved forward with the purchase beyond the $35,000 threshold because they did not want to risk students starting school without air conditioning.
