District proposes 2026–27 budget at tax cap; buses and vehicles funded from reserves

The district presented its proposed 2026–27 budget to the board, saying it will go to voters at the tax cap (3.079%) with a tax levy just over $8.5 million. The administration noted it expects to withdraw $513,000 from the transportation and equipment reserves to purchase two buses and other vehicles including a truck, a van and a tractor.
"We're going out at the tax cap," the administration said during the budget overview, adding that the district built a 2% foundation aid assumption into the budget and can adjust reserve use depending on final state aid figures. The administration outlined four propositions for the ballot: the budget, board member elections, bus purchases drawn from reserves, and other vehicle purchases drawn from reserves.
Officials reminded the board that the district must plan for electric bus procurement requirements anticipated in 2027 and that using reserves now is intended to stagger purchases prior to mandated transitions. The board scheduled a special budget meeting (April 29), a public budget hearing (May 13) and the budget vote (May 20).
