Town staff updated the Board on the status of SUP2025003, the Lake Life LLC marina at 1062 Memorial Highway. Staff said several project components remain under review for ADA accessibility and safety compliance. The above-ground fuel-tank installation has been delayed because of sourcing challenges, contractor scheduling and regulatory requirements; staff estimated financial impacts in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Installation work is continuing with a specialized contractor from Raleigh.
Staff also reported an inspection challenge for the commercial tram system: there is no currently available qualified commercial tram inspector within the state, and staff are exploring certified third-party options to satisfy regulatory requirements. The Board discussed permitting conditions for customer access during construction, noting the operator may store five rental boats onsite and continue a delivery-based rental model, but unrestricted customer access requires Building Inspector approval and safety measures such as orange fencing, protective dock bumpers and separation of customer areas.
