Commission recommends conditional use permit for Pilot truck stop, adds ownership limitation

The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the Board of Aldermen approve a conditional use permit that would allow Pilot Travel Centers to operate a truck stop in the C - General Commercial District and to construct an 1,800 sq ft addition. Staff noted the property "has operated as a truck stop since before 1970" and recommended approval with conditions including construction of sidewalks along the 92 Highway frontage and along Shanks Avenue with a pedestrian connection to the front of the building.
Commissioner Kathy Barger requested the conditional use permit be tied to the current ownership; Barger moved that the commission recommend approval with staff conditions plus the ownership-bound condition. Commissioner Chastain Parks seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The conditional use permit approval is contingent on the companion rezoning to C - General Commercial moving forward.
