The board heard that the store's sales have increased sharply: the state contacted the store to report it is the "#1 performing ABC store in the state," with sales up 45% compared with the prior year, though staff noted the comparison may be affected by new attractions (the park and lake) that were not in place the prior year. Accounting and store management attributed the increase in part to rising foot traffic and holiday-related inventory planning.
Store Manager Patricia Crain detailed the ready-to-drink cocktail category: in May this category accounted for 5.17% of sales, totaling 202 cases/bottles and $271.55 in mixer sales. Crain warned that if grocery stores begin selling lower-proof, repackaged ready-to-drink cocktails, the ABC store could lose those sales and the accompanying secondary purchases that occur when customers also buy other items.
