The Planning and Zoning Commission on July 13 recommended the Board of Aldermen approve rezoning roughly 12.42 acres occupied by Pilot Travel Centers to C - General Commercial. The rezoning would convert approximately 8.9 acres currently zoned M - Industrial and, staff said, would bring the property into alignment with the current zoning ordinance that allows truck stops as a conditional use in the C district. "Approval of the rezoning request will bring the property into compliance with the current Zoning Ordinance, which allows truck stops only as a conditional use in the C - General Commercial District."
Commissioner Keith Hall made the motion to recommend approval; Commissioner Wyeth Ervin seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Staff recommended the rezoning be approved with the condition that the project be developed in compliance with all codes, conditions, requirements, plans and payments of fees and taxes. The rezoning request was filed alongside a separate conditional use permit application that must be approved for the truck stop to continue and to allow a proposed building addition.
