During the Feb. 11 meeting a public commenter and trustee candidate (speaker 3) criticized the board’s recent counsel selection process and said she had unanswered emails to President Maureen Harris dating to Jan. 15. She asked that policies 0174 and 0177 include attached regulations and said trustees should be kept fully informed on counsel matters.
A staff member who identified themselves as legal counsel cautioned that closed‑session attorney–client privileged discussions should not be repeated in public. The exchange grew tense: at one point a trustee and the commenter traded accusations and the commenter said she would share receipts; the presiding officer interrupted and said the topic risked attorney–client privilege. The commenter reiterated her request for greater transparency and committee involvement in counsel decisions. No disciplinary or investigatory action was taken on the floor during this meeting; the commenter said they might contact the New Jersey School Boards Association regarding ethics concerns.
