The superintendent explained the blue-language changes, saying, "Principals can suspend up to 10 days. Superintendent can suspend between 11 and 59. And that's in state law." Board members debated logistics of appeals and the timing of hearings; the superintendent noted a student who appeals may serve an interim suspension while the board schedules a hearing and that the board would receive both sides of the case in full session. The board moved to approve the policy edits (moved by Joel; seconded by Savannah) and the motion passed.
Members emphasized the importance of having sufficient evidence available for evaluation and that any requests for additional evidence for the superintendent-evaluation cycle should be submitted by Sept. 30 so materials can be prepared before post-conference meetings.
