Commission adopts 2021 International Building and Residential Codes with stated exceptions

A county official told commissioners that the update keeps the county within the five-year compliance window required by state rules and noted specific deletions such as provisions for rooms containing fuel-burning appliances. "What we're doing is getting staying within compliance of the of the state codes," a planning representative said during the reading and Q&A. After brief discussion and questions, the commission adopted the resolution by voice vote.
The adoption will require county implementation steps to align local permit and inspection procedures with the new code language. The motion passed by the voice vote announced at the meeting (tally announced: 22 yes, 4 no, 0 abstain).
