Council considered a resolution authorizing the Broome Local Development Corporation (BLDC), as plaza manager, to enter a one-year lease with the daycare operator Curious Kids for an outbuilding at Binghamton Plaza.
Corporation counsel and BLDC representatives said the city does not intend to retain long-term ownership of the parcel and that the BLDC, under its management agreement, must obtain council approval to lease the outbuilding. The one-year lease would give time for the city and BLDC to pursue property disposition options while allowing the daycare to remain operating. "It would be a major impact to the people that utilize those resources," a council member said in support of giving the daycare more time.
Council moved to expedite the resolution; the clerk recorded an expedited roll-call vote that passed 4–1 with Council member Murray absent. Presenters did not specify the number of families who use the daycare; staff said they did not have that figure on hand.
