Seaman board hears summer facilities wins, HVAC upgrades and maintenance goals

Lance, who leads facilities and grounds for the district, gave a detailed report of summer projects and near‑term priorities.
He said crews completed replacement of a collapsed clay sewer line at Seaman High School over the summer and replaced or upgraded multiple HVAC units; high temperatures slowed work during one heat spell. Concrete repairs and handicap‑accessibility upgrades were completed at several sites, and the district has begun asbestos abatement and warehouse reorganization at identified buildings. Lance also described a new parking‑lot striping capability (“we got it to the point where we can do the parking lots now”) and said the district plans to continue targeted capital work over several years.
Lance outlined program goals: a facilities program evaluation, enhanced hands‑on training for custodial and maintenance staff, restored first‑aid/CPR training for custodial crews, and a move toward competency‑based assessments for apprentices and interns. He reported the active work‑order queue at about 117 pending requests (down from an earlier high), and said preventative maintenance is extending equipment life and saving money.
Board members pressed for the top 3–5 facility risks; Lance said the high school requires multi‑year modernization, and that aging grounds equipment and building systems represent deferred‑maintenance risk, but most emergency projects this summer were completed at or under budget. The board thanked Lance and his team for the progress.
