Columbus officials outline how HUD grants fund housing, nonprofit repairs and services

"I'm Chris Long, director of the City of Columbus Department of Finance and Management," he told the council, noting the city's grants-management section oversees CDBG, HOME, HOPWA and the Emergency Solutions Grant. The presentation framed those programs as tools to "create and improve affordable housing, enhance quality of life for Columbus residents, and generate economic opportunities for low to moderate income people," Long said.
City staff emphasized partnerships between Finance and other departments and community groups to design and implement projects. The presenters cited examples of completed work — roof repairs, HVAC replacements and new community spaces — as evidence that federal funds are being used to maintain affordable housing stock and nonprofit facilities.
The briefing did not include any formal votes or funding allocations; staff described ongoing program implementation and thanked community partners for participation. The city said it will continue leveraging federal dollars through coordination between the Department of Finance and Management and the Department of Development to steward HUD-funded programs.
