Presenter asks Winston County Board of Education to help replace Lynn Elementary playground

"My son required 7 sutures after being injured on the playground," the presenter said, adding that other parents have reported injuries. The presenter also said the playground currently lacks ADA-accessible features and that while the existing equipment may be grandfathered under older standards, any new playground or major improvements will need to comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements.
The presenter outlined fundraising efforts and a funding gap: "We're at about $8,500 right now," they said, and asked whether the board would "provide any matching funds or contribute financially." They said many grants require matching funds or that the property owner be the applicant and requested the board work with the foundation to develop a two- to five-year replacement plan to strengthen grant applications. The presenter closed by noting a recent donation: "But, Mister Wadsworth gave us $3,500 today," and reiterated that the foundation needs help to complete the project.
The board did not commit funds during the meeting. The chair said the request would be "obtained under consideration" and that more time would be needed to discuss it. No formal vote, directive to staff, or funding commitment appears in the transcript.
