Supervisor: Summer meal sites served more than 30,000 breakfasts and 38,000 lunches

Katie Baze, supervisor of nutritional services for Trotwood-Madison City Schools, summarized the district’s summer meal operations and results. “This year, we serve daily lunches in 15 sites around the community and breakfast at 9 of those sites,” Baze said, and she credited staff and community volunteers for managing service at schools, libraries, apartment complexes and churches.
Baze described a new rural non-congregate option at Madison Park Elementary, a drive-up, grab-and-go distribution that provided five breakfasts and five lunches per bag on a weekly schedule. She said the Madison Park team distributed 4,141 grab-and-go bags (counted as 20,705 breakfasts and 20,705 lunches) and reported that at the 15 daily sites the team served about 10,000 breakfasts and about 17,500 lunches. “So our grand total this year breakfast was over 30,000, almost 31,000,” Baze told the board.
Board members and the superintendent publicly thanked food-service staff for the effort and recognized several employees in the room. The presentation noted the program is USDA-funded and administered through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce; Baze said final figures were still being tallied because the program at the high school continued for a few days after the report.
