Council approves $7,050 replacement of a breached chlorine storage tank at wastewater plant

Council adopted a resolution authorizing Municipal Operations and Consulting to enter into an agreement with Purify to replace a breached 1,000-gallon double-walled chlorine vertical storage tank at the wastewater treatment plant, with a contract not to exceed $7,050.
Roland Liao of MOC explained the existing tank developed an internal crack and the city must maintain a double-walled standby supply to comply with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements and to ensure continued disinfection of effluent discharged to the creek. "This is a tank that we have at the plant. This houses the chlorine chemical, which is what treats your effluent that goes out into the creek," Liao said.
Council discussed the safety and regulatory need for a replacement tank and then voted to authorize the expenditure. Staff noted the purchase will restore redundancy so chemical treatment can continue during maintenance or equipment failure.
