DOT says Route 40 drainage project enters final design; bids likely within two years

Robbie Adams reported that state Department of Transportation engineers and chiefs of staff visited Borough Hall and made an on‑site inspection of chronic drainage failures at the intersection identified as Badalani's Corner on Route 40 between Central Avenue and Kimberly Lane. "They gave us the good news within 2 years from now that the job will go out to bid," Adams said.
Adams told the council the project is in the final design stage — a process he said could take “up to a year, year and 0.5” — and that DOT staff walked the affected areas, took notes and maps, and shared suggestions with borough officials. He said the work will be funded by state and federal sources, with county and local contributions needed for related segments, and that DOT officials proposed a follow‑up meeting in December and another update six months after that. Adams cautioned that final construction could be three to four years out and that interim pavement work on Route 40 will not fix underlying drainage problems.
